Picture Keeper

The Picture Keeper is a very handy device that lets you back up your JPEG images with ease. Just plug the USB device into your computer, click the “Start Backup” button, and it does the rest, finding all the JPEG images on your computer and putting them on the flash drive. It’s a nice way to keep a backup of your photos!

It comes in three sizes; 4GB, 8GB, and 16GB. If you are unsure about what size you might need, their website has a guide to help you figure it out. Personally, we would go directly for the 16GB, since we take a lot of photos! However, we were able to test drive the 8GB and it held our photos with room to spare!

We liked that it works for both PC and Mac, and that it doesn’t require installing any software on your computer (the software runs from the Picture Keeper). We also liked that it pulled everything for us without us having to search. At the same time this is also it’s downfall if you have a lot of JPEGS that you don’t care about keeping (such as for work). The one thing I really liked about backing up onto a flash drive is that I now have all my photos available for easy printing at the store.

If you are looking for a very simple way to keep a backup of your photos, the Picture Keeper is a great product to look into!

ThinkGeek: USB Memory Watch

ThinkGeek is a web store that has so many awesome gadgets, toys, and shirts for the geeks among us. Of course, we are proud to be geeks and have a few goodies from their shop. Recently we got the chance to try out the USB Memory Watch. That’s right folks, a watch that has a built in USB memory stick. This watch is not only a handy way to keep files at your fingertips, but it is also a great watch with a simple style that would suit any man.

The watch offers options of 2- 8 GB of storage depending on which you order. It uses USB 2.0 connectivity, and is compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems (check the site for specifics). You can also use password security, and it is shock proof and anti-static. The watch itself is also very nice, with Japan movement and a 3 year battery life. It looks great on too! You would never suspect that it held a secret USB storage device!

Be sure to check out ThinkGeek for more awesome gadgets. We found so many products that we thought were wish list worthy on their website, this watch is absolutely one of them!

easyBloom

easyBloom

What is that strange looking flower in my garden? Only the coolest garden gadget ever! The easyBloom plant sensor! This amazing little gadget combines two of my favorite things, gardening and technology, to help grow a better garden.

I test drove two different plots in recommend mode, both in our backyard, and not too far apart from each other. Imagine my surprise at just how different the spots really were. Both got similar amounts of sunlight, but the water content was different with one area being mostly dry, while the other was totally wet.

The sensor has three different modes:

  • Recommend: learn about the area then get recommendations on which plants would grow best in that spot.
  • Monitor: use the sensor next to an existing plant to track how it’s doing, get feedback on what it needs to do better, etc.
  • Water: simply stick the sensor in the dirt next to a plant and hear a beep alarm if it needs watering.

The first two modes will launch the software that runs online to get recommendations and also to keep a nice record of all the areas that you have tested. When you connect the sensor to your computer via the USB connector for the first time, you will register and get the software (it runs online). Then you can set which mode you want your sensor to be in (done only through the software, my only complaint because it would be nice to be able to change modes on the actual sensor). The easyBloom comes with extra petals, batteries, a USB cord which is helpful for those of us with laptops, and a holder that you can put on the wall or stand on it’s own.

To see a better example of how it works, visit the how it works section of the site. There is even a video that you can watch to get an even better feel. It’s really so simple to use, and so very cool to get recommendations and personalized information about our garden. I have a feeling our garden is going to be even more amazing thanks to the easyBloom.

You can buy your own EasyBloom Plant Sensor for just $59.95. It’s well worth the price (and it qualifies for free shipping too). So, if you love the garden and gadgets, you will have to agree with us that the easyBloom is totally wish list worthy!

Xbox 360

xbox360

My husband and I are both video game addicts, and so when we got the Xbox 360 with Kung Fu Panda, and Lego Indiana Jones games, we were super excited to give it a try!

The Likes:

  • The console is smaller than the previous version.
  • It does play DVDs, so you could use it as both a game system and movie system.
  • The graphics are great, and look amazing!
  • There is a large variety of games available. The system is backwards compatible with some previous titles as well.
  • This particular package came with the Xbox 360 console, 60GB detachable hard drive, wireless controller, Xbox Live headset, standard / HD AV cable, ethernet cable, detachable faceplate, Xbox Live Silver membership, LEGO Indiana Jones Game, Kung Fu Panda Game.
  • A good value for the money.

The Dislikes:

  • The console gets very hot and tends to overheat to the point of killing the hard drive. Luckily this hasn’t happened to us, but be aware of where you put it, giving it plenty of ventilation.
  • I found the controllers to be a bit awkward, however my husband found them to work well with his larger hands.
  • Online play is only available if you pay for the service. This is the one feature we both hate most, on the Wii and PS3 systems you can play your games online for free. Disappointing that XBox doesn’t offer it free as well.
  • The hard drive can be upgraded, but only with a specific XBox hard drive.

Overall it’s a fun system, and we do enjoy playing it. However, I would recommend the PlayStation 3 to anyone looking for a new game system because it’s positives are so numerous (and it plays Blu-Ray).

PinkTooth is the new Bluetooth!

pinktooth

If you have ever wanted wireless headset, but didn’t find what you were looking for with all the regular, boring options, then PinkTooth is for you! It uses BlueTooth technology to deliver the same quality sound and convince as regular headsets, but it does it in a fun and stylish way.

I just love mine (in pink of course). It’s very comfortable, and easy to use. It works perfectly with my cell phone, and I can now look like I am talking to myself while shopping (I’m still not used to that, but at least now most people assume you are on the phone). The PinkTooth is covered with high quality Swarovski crystal, and comes in a great tin package that can easily be given as a gift, or reused for storing trinkets (or storing your PinkTooth).

The PinkTooth features a talk time of up to 6 hours with a standby time of up to 200 hours. Also there is a 2 color LED, and of course a rechargeable Li-Polymer battery. The PinkTooth is also light weight and has a very clear sound quality.

We think that the PinkTooth is very wish list worthy!
